a WEED tree...

We all know that weeds are OBNOXIOUS things and if left alone they can take over....did you know that there are trees that can do the same thing!! The chinese elm...my mom always warned me to pull them out when they are small, otherwise they can establish a "strong" root system and then...and these things are EVERYWHERE!! In the fall, the little seeds fly around...white discs...in some neighborhoods it's like a light dusting of snow has fallin...then they grow...if you don't mow your grass often, you'll see little trees growing everywhere in you lawn...I did some research and these babies can grow 30 feet in 5 years!! and "planted too close to paving, it will heave sidewalks and driveways"...

So, why am I going on and on about this tree...A few weeks ago we were on our way to a friend's house and Michael saw the trees...stopped the car and said, "What is that growing!! They're already taller than the house!!" (at our rental house)...so Michael went over with David and cut down several of these "small" trees that had grown as tall as the two story house...(we've been gone 3 years)...the renters thought they were bushes we'd planted...so watched them grow...taller and taller...I wish we could have gotten them out sooner...they were RIGHT BY THE HOUSE!!

Guess we should check into our rental more often...
